Malanda Chamber Hosts CCIQ at Dairy Centre

Help is at hand for small businesses on the Tablelands with Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ) showing their support at Wednesday night’s Malanda Chamber of Commerce meeting.

The Malanda Chamber of Commerce (MCOC) hosted the CCIQ CEO Stephen Tait and FNQ chair Brett Moller at the Malanda Dairy Centre for a scrumptious working dinner.

CCIQ, the industry peak body for small business, has recently undergone structural changes which will provide greater benefit to small businesses.

Following the restructure Mr Moller emphasised, "...a clear strategic direction that has been given to our management team to focus on building links and supporting our city and regional Chambers of Commerce."

MCOC member Christine Doan was in full support of this decision. “Small business needs champions. Big business has plenty of friends in high places. Small business needs a strong lobby. I’m so glad that CCIQ has decided to take up the crusade!” Ms Doan said.

Malanda has been taking a lead in ensuring that the Tableland business community is apprised of initiatives as well as collaborating with neighbouring Chambers. Representatives from business organisations from Millaa, Yungaburra, Atherton and the Gulf attended

Before the CCIQ talks, president of the MCOC, John Finter, listed the stunning achievements that his tiny yet dynamic group had chalked up recently. Featured were wins such as an Australia Day Award for Development of Commerce for DRiVe Malanda (formerly Sustainable Malanda, a subcommittee of MCOC) and that day’s Ministerial news of receiving Blueprint for the Bush funding from DEEDI (Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation) to fund an exciting, innovative upgrade of the MCOC website featuring interactivity and training in new technology.

The input from the MCOC and DRiVe Malanda into securing funding for the Malanda Visitor’s Information Centre through a now shortlisted Expression of Interest to Regional Development Australia Far North Queensland & Torres Strait is another example of the strength of collective resolve of the Malanda community, which has backed the project to the hilt.
