David Drake, founder and chairman of LDJ Capital in New York City,  the founder of The Soho Loft Capital Creation Series, and the co-founder of Crowd Funding Intermediary Regulatory Advocates (CFIRA) made it all the way to Malanda last week to visit Dr Karen Coombes at the Tree Roo Rescue and Conservation Centre just outside of Malanda.

“The goal of The Soho Loft is to promote and advance crowd fund investing for start-up entrepreneurs and SMEs….to grow business and create more jobs for others in their communities,” Mr Drake sums up.  Cairns entrepreneurs and SME’s were keen to hear more and they did with David fitting in a day on the Tablelands in between his two presentations in Cairns.

Ms Doan notes, “What David does not know about internet capital raising is hardly worth knowing.  And he sets the bar almost impossibly high not only in youth, creativity and energy, but also in making money in a tough business.  I love it that he is not afraid to wear his social activism heart on his sleeve.  He uses the same techniques to raise money for companies as for his charity beneficiaries.”

David was charmed by Zoe the Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo and impressed by Dr Karen Coombe’s in-depth knowledge of the species. He  is now keen to see what he can do to help via the many articles he writes for a wide variety of sources, the talks he gives all over the USA, and the world and of course via crowdfunding.
